West Windsor Education

Plainsboro and West Windsor are part of a combined school district. There are four K-3 elementry schools, two 4-5 grade schools, two 6-8 grade middle schools, and two high schools. In 2005 Community Middle School received first place at the national science olympiad competition. The first place position was taken again in 2007. West Windsor-Plainsboro was ranked #1 in the state of New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly magazine, and West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South was ranked #3. Three of the district schools have been recognized by the blue ribbon schools program.
Near by Princeton offers many opportunities for higher education. Once the children graduate from high school, they have many local options for higher learning. The famous Princeton University, Princeton Theological Seminary, Westminster Choir College, and the Institute for Advanced Study.
There are also many options for the Adult that would like to continue their education. For them, there is the Princeton Adult School, Thomas Edison State College, and YWCA.

West Windsor History
|
The area of West Windsor lies centrally on the border of Mercer County. It is surrounded by Princeton Township to the north, by Plainsboro and East Windsor to the east. The West Windsor area was explored in 1634 by Thomas Yong. West Windsor was established in 1682 when William Penn signed a treaty with the Lenni Lenape indian tribe that was native to this area. In 1983, the Historical Society of West Windsor was founded. This organization is in charge of keeping the documents of the history of this historic area. Some of the history can be seen in the neighboring areas of Princeton and Plainsboro. The whole area of Plainsboro and Princeton have roots in the US beginings. Princeton is the most historic town in New Jersey. The famous college of New Jersey, which was later renamed Princeton University has brought many famous figures to the town. Also the battle of Princeton added fame to the town. Here, george Washington launched a surprise attack on Lord Cornwallis and his troops. Princeton served for a short time as the capital of the US after the Revolution. Some of the famous historic figures of the colonial era are: Aaron Burr, Jonathan Edwards Henry Lee, James Madison, and many others. Princeton University was established in the 1700's and has made the town a famous place for much of the history of the US. West Windsor has a special place in history.
